Episode 129: Is Food Your Frenemy? Understanding Emotional Eating

Food, Food, Food! We are surrounded by it! Many cultures use alcohol and tobacco for celebrations and also coping mechanisms, but as members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, what do we turn to? Food! Thus creating a frenemy relationship.  Food is needed for our physical survival, but many of us can turn to it for emotional survival as well.  In this episode, we dig into emotional eating. How it happens, what the cause of it is, and then I give you three tips to help when we find ourselves going in that direction.

1. Plan your food: Just a basic plan for the day will help you with your emotional eating!

2. Pay attention: Pay attention to the times you are tempted to snack? Are you hungry? Or are you stressed, tired, or anxious?

3.  Pause: Give yourselves at least 90 seconds to discover what is going on for you and make a conscious choice about whether you will eat or not.

Join us in this episode as we work to enjoy our food and keep a healthy relationship with food and ourselves!
